15/04/2003 Lallemand/American Yeast’s newly constructed facility in Memphis, Tennessee, will be fully completed by the end of this month. The yeast plant, the newest in North America, began commercial production in mid-January. It adds significant production capacity, which will enable Lallemand to better meet its customers` growing demand for yeast and yeast-based products in the markets it serves.
The new facility was officially inaugurated on February 3, 2003, as the “Roland Chagnon Yeast Plant” by Lallemand’s president, Jean Chagnon. The plant was named in honor of the company’s recently deceased chairman emeritus who purchased Lallemand over 50 years ago and was the driving force behind the decision to construct the new facility. Participants in the event included members of the Chagnon family, Lallemand’s board of directors, regional government and civic officials, and the companies involved in the plant’s construction.
Memphis was chosen because of transportation efficiencies, excellent infrastructure and effective local support. Lallemand also operates yeast plants in Montreal, Canada; Baltimore, Maryland; Bakersfield, California; and several Europeans locations including Austria, Germany and Estonia.
